I read this book in two hours. Seriously. And I have to say it may have been one of the BEST celebrity autobiographies I’ve ever read! Melissa Anderson (aka Mary Ingalls) tells readers what it was like to be on Little House…no more and no less. Focusing strictly on the episodes that featured her character prominently, she shares the bane and blessing of being on one of the most popular shows of all time. She also manages to do so without malice and without turning the whole thing into a tell-all. After reading Nellie Olson’s autobiography, as well as Laura’s (aka Melissa Gilbert) which did not portray Melissa Anderson in the most favorable light, I was pleased to see that she took Anderson higher ground and chose not to slander her co-stars. In fact, she didn’t offer her opinions of them one way or another.
Not everyone escapes unscathed. She does talk about how demanding Michael Landon could be as well as the fact that he and “Ma” didn’t get along very well, but even these insights are not shared like some kind of insider secret. More matter-of-fact than anything else.
I would have bet good money against this book, but I am really glad I got it. If you are a fan of the Little House TV show like I am, is worth a read and I say “Buy It.”
